Lady Gaga: 4 reasons why she's the best choice for Super Bowl halftime

It's no illusion. Lady Gaga really has confirmed she will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.

'Little Monsters' were rejoicing the world over when the singer - real name Stefani Germanotta - put the rumours to rest and made an announcement on Twitter.

Referencing her latest single Perfect Illusion she tweeted: "It's not an illusion. The rumors are true. This year the SUPER BOWL goes GAGA! @nfl @FOXTV @pepsi #PERFECTILLUSION…"

The Poker face singer will take to the stage at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on February 5 for the annual sporting event.
She follows in the footsteps of Katy Perry, Madonna and Beyoncé - who was picked for the job last year.

Her performance, which also included appearances from Chris Martin and Bruno Mars, drew an average audience of 104 million.

Here are four reasons why Gaga is the perfect singer for the job:

1) Flawless national anthem at Super Bowl 50

Gaga is no stranger to the Super Bowl. Although she wasn't the main event last year, she stole the show with her flawless performance of the national anthem which is reportedly what spurred NFL bosses to book her for 2017. Gaga said being asked to perform the anthem was "one of the highest honors of my career".

2) You know she'll put on a show

Katy Perry flew across the pitch, Michael Jackson was joined by 3,500 chidlren on stage and Janet Jackson accidentally flashed - but you can count on Gaga to top it all. Famed for her bizarre outfits from meat dresses to full on octopus fancy dress, fans can no doubt expect a whacky performance to remember.

3) New album - and a huge back catalogue to choose from

After three years, Gaga is back with a new single and a new album. Joanne is set for release on October 21, just four months before she takes to the stage, so fans can expect at least one new hit. Failing that, Gaga - who has placed 23 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and 20 on the UK Singles Chart - has no shortage of hits to choose from.

4) She's done a few collaborations - so there could be a surprise guest... or two

Tony Bennett is among a host of musical stars who have teamed up with Gaga for a collaboration. The pair worked on 2014 album Cheek to Cheek together and have performed live on numerous ocassions. But if Bennett isn't feeling it, could Beyonce - who has already been included in two Super Bowl halftime shows in the past three years - make another return in 2017 to duet live with Gaga?
